Crappy Swatches

I love the textbook that goes with this, but the swatches are of poor quality. My teacher had to constantly bring in better fabric samples for us to cut swatches of.

Good Condition with Damaged Swatch

The price for this book was good and it was still wrapped. However when I opened it and began putting it together, a couple of the swatches were damaged and unuseable (which I'm paying for with my grade in my textiles class). The seller was great and the book arrived very quickly, and while the seller accurately described the condition of the book as "NEW", it was the responsibility of the publisher to ensure the book and accompanying materials were produced properly.

An Access Code That Had Already Been Registered

I received this in a very timely manner in very good condition. All was great until I had realized that the access code had already been registered when this was supposed to be a "new" book. The access code for the online material has practice tests and additional information to assist students outside of the classroom, so it's kind of necessary. Just be weary of who you're purchasing from.

Monte Melnick's Flying Rock and Roll Circus

For all the years that The Ramones weaved their strange tales of Commandos, Pin Heads, Vegetables, and students of the Rock and Roll High School, there were very few constants in their lives. One of them was Monte A Melnick. He became the band's road warrior first class and managed the band through their lives. When reading his history of the band, told in both first person and a gathering of quotes and comments from other notables over time, you discover that the band that sang "We're A Happy Family" was anything but.

In fact, along with the telling it like it really was documentary, "End Of The Century," "On The Road With The Ramones" shines an often uncomplimentary light on the principles. Reading through quote after recount of Johnny's almost sadistic militarist disciplines, Joey's obsessive/compulsive disorder (he once distressed himself in a European airport that he absolutely had to return to New York and touch a door he'd missed) and as Dee Dee's addictive personality become increasingly unstable, you marvel that The Ramones carved out a 22 year career that yielded only marginal success.

Yet that is what Melnick lays out in this book. You watch as the three core band members take the job of being the Ramones and affect all they come into contact with. All who do, come out changed. Band members splinter off, sometimes only nominally damaged (Tommy) or severely (Ritchie Ramone cut himself off so completely his royalties lay uncollected for three years). There was no way a tornado of rock like these men could strike you and not throw you.

What ultimately mattered to everyone involved was the music. You can gather through the book that, even at their most acrimonious, Johnny and Joey were blood brothers at the level of rock and roll as savior to what would have otherwise been anonymous lives. In the case of Joey or Dee Dee, you may even wonder what other life they would have had if not as musicians. It makes "On The Road With The Ramones" as much a confirmation of these legends of Punk Rock as it does a destroyer of their mythology. Absolutely essential.

I have a couple of books about The Ramones, but this one is my all time favorite. I love the pictures included in this book. I like all the extra background information and the fact that it comes straight from the mouths of The Ramones and their manager ( along with others). Joey was (still is) my fave member. So it was nice discover more interesting details about him.

"It's Monte, Not Monty!"

Monte's book, "On The Road With The Ramones" tells it like it is and was.
Frank Meyer knows his punk rock.
This book is a MUST HAVE for any Ramones fan, and offers insight not only into rock 'n' roll and punk rock, but into the concept of bands themselves.
Monte is honest, sincere, and an all around nice guy. As much as I'd like to say this is my FAVORITE Ramones book, with all the infighting that goes on among these guys (and still does to this day), it's best I don't.
The pictures in here are priceless and I think Monte's pal, Shira, deserves lots of credit for helping him and Frank out with what is one of the best rock books ever written.
Buy this right away. No matter if you are a Ramones fan, or just heard of them. This book truely talks about the heart of rock n' roll. And sometimes that ain't pretty. But it sure is interesting.

As a guitarist and guitar teacher, for over 25 years, I was always looking for a book that would teach scales and the music theory behind them in a fun, useful and musical format. Informative and Well-Designed Book and Videos!

As a guitarist for over 20 years, I have seen a lot of scale and music theory books. Each one is pretty good, but is lacking in one area or another. For instance, most guitar scale books don't provide the finger numbers or the notes on the guitar neck. Many of them also provide scale patterns that are difficult for the hands to learn and are not practical. Almost all scales books that I've seen don't tell you what chords to play the scales over; they just list scale patterns.

The author of this book has done a very good job in making learning scales easy, fun, and musical. Here are 10 features that make it a little "gem":

1. The book begins with easy-to-play scales and progresses to expert-level techniques.
2. It is designed in a lesson-based format. Each page builds on the previous one and is well organized.
3. The information provided is very clear. The lessons are not overloaded with useless, filler material.
4. There are play-along videos to help you get a feel for how the scales work in real music.
5. A huge amount of scales are presented that can be used in many different styles and genres.
6. The fingerings are great and easy to learn.

7. The price is very reasonable.
8. It easily fits in a guitar case or gig bag.
9. It teaches music theory.
10. You will learn the notes on the guitar neck.

I bought this book right after "Guitar Adventures" from the same author Damon Ferrante. I was so pleased with the first one so I decided to give this one a try and I was happy to find again the same features I loved about Ferrante's teaching style. The lessons are very clear, the theory is explained in a very simple way, without taking anything for granted (wich is great for a beginner as I am) and, last but not least, the play along videos are very, very helpful. Get these books, you won't regret it!

Great review for experienced musician

I have a pretty extensive background in music. I have been singing for as long as I can remember in choirs and plays etc. I have also been playing the viola and the flute since elementary school! I have had numerous hours of training in reading and playing music. The guitar has always been an instrument that I have wanted to play. However, I am not one that can afford lessons... That being said, this book is PERFECT for someone like me. Even with my background as a musician, the detailed lessons are a great review for me as well as a clarification for some things. The book is easy to follow and the addition of picture visuals and video tutorials make it that much easier. My favorite addition is the play alongs at the end of the lesson that allow you to apply techniques and scale work. This is a great book and I am so excited to put it to great use!!

By effectively patching together lengthy quotes, he outlines the rock star's New Jersey childhood, mentions his first bands, and concentrates on Springsteen's relationship and 1976 split with Appel, who managed the singer/guitarist to his Born To Run (1975) success and whose recollections form the basis of this book. Though overrating the importance of Appel, who is cast as a victim, and unable to interview either Springsteen or current manager Jon Landau, Eliot delivers a readable, sometimes fascinating text that sheds new light on the 1975 selling of Springsteen and should be read together with Dave Marsh's more laudatory biographies, Born To Run ( LJ 11/1/79) and Glory Days (Pantheon, 1987). Recommended to anyone interested in Springsteen, rock 'n' roll, or the music business.

Despite the implicit range of this literary reference, the boundaries of Eliot's own work are much narrower. Forsaking any real examination of Springsteen's work itself, Eliot instead traces the rise and fall of former manager Mike Appel's relationship with Springsteen. Eliot's narration is straightforward and well-executed. He jumps nimbly between protagonists with the simplest changes of inflection and intonationÐno small feat considering the large amount of directly quoted material, including a highly effective dramatization of court transcripts. i liked getting this side of the Bruce story.
It definitely humanizes Mike Appel and he deserved a better shake than he got. but what other outcome can u expect from two hard driving obsessive personalities? ( kinda reminds me of the john huston movie: treasure of the sierra madre). Enjoy!

Good Introduction to Position Trading

Let me first state -- this is not a book for day traders! Although there are chapters on both swing and day trading, the authors concentrate on position trading. Hence, they include several chapters on fundamental analysis and focus on slower signalling indicators. Now, that's out of the way...

The book is well-written, with the not-too-serious yet informative style that hallmarks a good "Dummies" book. The organisation is top notch, and the authors re-iterate tactics they have previously covered when doing so provides a good learning example. There is a limited amount of technical analysis, with the primary focus on patterns (breakout and continuation) and simple indicators--moving averages, MACD, relative strength, e.g.

As with most "Dummies" books, you are not by any means an expert on the topic when you finish. However, I believe the reader, having paid close attention, will have a good grasp of the concepts he or she will need to trade, and that this book provides a good introduction and foundation for further research in the field.

I give the book 5 stars for well accomplishing the authors' stated purpose, but caution that, if you are looking for a book on short-term trading, you could be disappointed. That having been said, I think it makes a fine base for further reading into such trading. Your mileage may vary.

Excellent foundation for the beginning trader

Trading for Dummies is an excellent book for anyone interested in starting to trade stocks. This book really kept me wanting to read on and on because every section was filled with plenty of information. The way the chapters are arranged were very good in that you don't have to be going back and forth to understand the whole concept. One thing I noticed was that this book is for someone who wants to be a position trader as opposed to a day trader, which is good because that is what I want to do. For someone who knows absolutely nothing about how the stock market works, this book is an excellent read. Overall I give it the full five stars.

Being an intermediate level trader, I'm always on the lookout for books that get back to basics. This "Trading for Dummies" seemed like an ideal book for refreshing fundamental trading skills.

Likes:
*Although intended for intermediate to more advanced traders, this book is simple enough to understand for most novice traders with its "Dummies" icons: Tips, Important points to remember, Warnings, Trader's secret for more advanced traders, and Stockcharts how to.
*The authors have solid credentials in the financial world. Michael Griffis, MBA, is also the author of "Economic Indicators for Dummies"; Lita Epstein, MBA, also authored "Bookkeeping for Dummies".
*Good reviews of basic trading skills such as fundamental analysis (FA), technical analysis (TA)/charts, developing specific trading strategies based on FA & TA, basics of swing and day trading, derivatives, Forex (Foreign Currency Exchange), etc.
*The chapters that I found most useful were Chapter 22: More Than Ten Huge Trading Mistakes, and Chapter 23: Ten Trading Survival Techniques. I've made my share of trading mistakes that were mentioned. Hindsight is 20/20 but it's certainly good to acknowledge mistakes and move on. These chapters are immensely helpful to avoid repeating prior trading mistakes.

Limitations:
*Lots of information and advice that most intermediate to advanced traders already know from other books, TV, or online trading resources.
*Most trading topics covered only skim the surface. There are plenty of other trading books, TV, and online resources that provide more in depth details and information.
*Over emphasis and reliance on TA and charts is unsafe. Traders should use ALL resources and skills available. Nothing beats actual trading experience.

Overall:
A good trading book for rookie traders to learn about the basics, and for intermediate to advanced traders for brushing up on specific trading skills that they may need to improve or refresh.

Newest preptest as of January 2016

This is the newest LSAT preptest, as of the time of this review (Jan 2016). The LSAT changes with time. Get the newest test; it's the best indicator of what future tests will look like. Considering how important the LSAT is to your odds of admission, this book is well worth the price. You should also get the following books:

LSAT 76LSAT 75, LSAT 74, LSAT 73, LSAT 72
LSATs 62-71, LSATs 52-61

Total cost is around $70-$80. There's no better investment you could make towards a better LSAT score. For more practice, get preptests 29-38. Note that only preptests 66-76 have two pages for logic games diagrams. Use only the second page for your diagrams. It is surprisingly easy to lose your train of thought when you have to move your eyes across multiple pages. This test also has a comparative reading passage. Every test from 52 onwards has comparative reading.

If you are "training" for the LSAT I highly recommend using the most recent tests that LSAC releases. They are the test in so many ways! I studied with my other practice tests and decided to find a recent test to make sure I was headed in the right direction. I took the October 2015 released test by LSAC as a pre-test before my official LSAT and it was spot on. I scored the exact same on my official LSAT as I did on the practice test. Use this as an indicator to monitor your score! Good Luck!

Very well done

This book was recommended by Dr. Brent Lin, of the pediatric program at UCSF

While I bought it about a year ago, I only just finished reading most of it.
It's very well written. It's concise without missing anything.
Frankly, there's nothing that I can think to add or remove to this regarding the standard of care for pediatric dentistry.

Surprisingly, there's also a pretty well written section on pediatric practice management. There's also the best written material on the reconstruction of cleft lip and palate in any text that I've read.

This is the perfect book for dentists interested in understanding the standard of care, the protocols of treating kids, and the scientific rationale behind it.
The only possible complaint is that this isn't equivalent to a pediatric residency (however, no book would be).

Highly recommended.

I havc all nine editions and all new editions are nicely updated. The chapter on genetics for the
practicing dentist is excellent. It meticulously integrates the science of molecular biology and clinical dentistry. This text should be required for all pediatric dental residents to read.

Authors and child psychologists Hirsh-Pasek, Golinkoff and Eyer join together to prove that training preschoolers with flash cards and attempting to hurry intellectual development doesn't pay off. In fact, the authors claim, kids who are pressured early on to join the academic rat race don't fair any better than children who are allowed to take their time. Alarmed by the current trend toward creating baby Einsteins, Hirsh-Pasek and Golinkoff urge parents to step back and practice the "Three R's: Reflect, Resist, and Recenter." Instead of pushing preschoolers into academically oriented programs that focus on early achievement, they suggest that children learn best through simple playtime, which enhances problem solving skills, attention span, social development and creativity. "Play is to early childhood as gas is to a car," say Hirsh-Pasek and Golinkoff, explaining that reciting and memorizing will produce "trained seals" rather than creative thinkers. Creativity and independent thinking, they argue, are true 21st-century skills; IQ and other test scores provide a narrow view of intelligence. The authors walk parents through much of the recent research on the way children learn, debunking such myths as the Mozart effect, and pointing out that much learning unravels naturally, programmed through centuries of evolution. Roberta Michnick Golinkoff, Ph.D.0, is the H. Rodney Sharp Professor in the School of Education at the University of Delaware, where she holds a joint appointment with the departments of linguistics and psychology and directs the Infant Language Project. She has also been a recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship and is the mother of a son and a daughter.

Together, the authors were featured on the PBS Human Language series and are the authors of How Babies Talk.

Diane Eyer, Ph.D., is a member of the psychology department at Temple University and author of Motherguilt and Mother-Infant Bonding.

A lot of why and not much how

I understand and agree with the authors' philosophy of childhood learning.
But, I was expecting the authors to help parents design a learning environment that fosters the creative learning approach encouraged here. The authors spend a lot of time convincing the readers about their ideas but very little to no advice on how parents can adopt their learning methods at home. Now I know what I should be teaching my kids but I have no idea how I can do that at home.

Beyond Excellent. You won't panic while reading this book!

You know how it goes. You hear another mommy in the playgroup or a mutual friend talk about how they are teaching their one-year-old to read or how their toddler just got in to the spanish immersion pre-school and you feel that twinge of guilty panic, wondering if you're doing what is right to make your child as smart as possible. This book is INCREDIBLE and will calm you down and help you realize what is truly important: children do not learn from boring drill-and-kill experiences. They learn from play and enjoyable reading.

My favorite quote from this book is "Put away your credit card and get out your library card". That is the theme of the whole book. The authors explian why most expensive "educational" toys MAKE your children play with them a certain way and don't allow for creativity so they should not be the only toys your child has. (You can have them! They simply suggest you also have creative toys like dolls, blocks, dress up, kitchen & tool sets or Legos.) They go on to explain that access to toys like these encourage unstructured, imaginative play that help children learn about numbers, physics, geometry, the world and their feelings.

This book tackles our most pressing questions, like how we will teach our children to read before pre-school and how we will teach them the concept of number symbols standing for actual quantities of items. Moreso, they explain to parents exactly how children learn and that parents are not the sole architects of the perfect baby brain. Mother nature has already created a brain that loves to learn and drilling children with flash cards or worksheets can kill a love for learning that is naturally there.

As you can tell from the title of the book, flash cards and demanding, there's-only-one-right-answer educational toys are a fairly new trend but geniuses have always existed. Most intelligent people in the past were allowed to play and leisure read freely - and experiment with things around them - which contributed to their intelligence the most. Parents reading to children and free play are a must! (By the way, I have a psychology degree and I learned in college that children under 1 cannot really see words well unless the letters are FOUR INCHES TALL! Even better if the words are red, not black, to attract the eye to focus. No flash cards look like this! Two year olds still need three inch letters. Adult print is simply too small for their developing visual pathways to read! How bored and agitated would you be looking at small, blurry letters all day? It's like a constant eye-chart test set at 20/10!)

I loved this book and nearly every paragraph is supported by research completed all over the world on child development. The back of the book organized the cites and references by chapter so you can look in to the research if you want to arm yourself with facts! In fact, I have talked so positively about this book, my friends are lining up to borrow it and I'm encouraging everyone to buy their own copy because you will want to keep this one on-hand. I'm buying one for the gal that lives up the street that just won't quit talking about how "smart" and "advanced" her one year old is because she buys educational toys exclusively!

Honestly, you're going to find the answers you are looking for about how to both encourage creativity and teach the fundamentals your children need for Kindergarten. If nothing else, it will assure you that a relaxed, unstructured play day at home is one of the best things you can do for your child!

There were portions of the book where I felt the authors were taking this very good point a bit too far

I felt this book had a rather simple but also very important message to deliver: don't go crazy overdoing it with your children's activities because they need time to play and learn on their own. That's really the only take away for me though. There were portions of the book where I felt the authors were taking this very good point a bit too far. At time they seemed to imply that despite enormous amounts of neuroscientific evidence to the contrary, theres really nothing you can do to help your kids develop into happy, healthy young adults. Just sit back and see what 'mother nature' has in store. To the extent that the authors sometimes seemed to say things along these lines, I disagree. Reading, music, playing , talking, walking in nature...these things may not magically transform your child into Einstein, but I believe (based on experience and copious additional reading) that they help with development and anjoymentbof life. I feel like this book basically could've been one page long.
